Nitrous Oxide
commonly known as laughing gas, provides mild sedation to promote relaxation and minimize discomfort. It is safe for most patients and quickly dissipates with oxygen.
Oral Conscious Sedation (OCS)
offers a deeper level of relaxation, keeping you calm and slightly drowsy during treatment. Although you remain responsive and able to stand, many patients recall little to nothing about the procedure, making it an excellent option for those with dental anxiety.
Intravenous Sedation (IV)
is typically used for shorter procedures, taking effect quickly and often giving the sensation of sleeping through the treatment. While some grogginess may persist, it generally wears off within a few hours. Both IV sedation and OCS require transportation home, as the sedative effects can last up to 24 hours.

Reasons to Use Sedation in Dentistry
Sedation dentistry is an excellent solution for patients who experience anxiety or fear during dental visits. It helps create a calm, stress-free environment, allowing individuals to receive necessary treatments without discomfort. This is especially beneficial for those with dental phobias, past traumatic experiences or difficulty sitting still for extended periods.
Beyond anxiety relief, sedation is useful for complex or lengthy procedures such as root canals, extractions and dental implants. With sedation dentistry, patients can remain comfortable and relaxed while receiving quality dental care.

Important Things to Know About Recovering From Sedation Dentistry
After sedation dentistry, proper recovery is essential. Plan to rest for the remainder of the day and arrange for someone to drive you home, as sedation may temporarily affect coordination. Drowsiness or grogginess is common for several hours, so it's best to avoid strenuous activities until the sedative effects fully wear off.
For optimal recovery, be sure to follow all post-procedure care instructions provided by your dental team.
Our Sedation Dentistry Process
During your initial consultation, your dentist will evaluate your health and determine the most suitable sedation option to ensure your comfort and safety.
- Initial Consultation: A thorough health assessment helps your doctor recommend the best sedation method.
- Sedation Administration: Based on our evaluation and discussion, you’ll receive one of the following sedation methods—oral, nitrous oxide or IV.
- Monitoring: Our team continuously monitors your vital signs for safety.
- Treatment: The dental procedure is performed, and often feels like it passes quickly.
- Recovery: You may experience grogginess afterward. Recovery time depends on the sedation used.
